Day 1 - Self-Intention Letter and 5 Min WALK - February Fitness Challenge 2021

Written Instructions for Day One. #februaryfitnesschallenge2021

Self-Intention Letter: Write a letter to yourself outlining your efforts and skills to accomplish this challenge for the month. Note your reasons why you are participating, perhaps even some obstacles you wish to overcome, and be honest with yourself in letter format. This doesn't have to be long, just thought out. Once complete - sign, seal, and deliver your letter to a safe shelf space until we review it on the final day of this challenge.

This activity is a great way to get to the deeper meaning of yourself. It may seem silly... it sort of is. But, allowing ourselves an outlet from internal intention to written form psychologically connects our thought, sight, and true goals. We may even discover a depth we weren't aware of... our WHY is important to success.

Fitness Focus:

5 Minute Walk. Set a timer and perform a 1 minute slow (relaxed pace) to 1 minute fast (you-need-something-from-the-store-imperative-to-dinner type pace). It will look like this:

Minute 1 - Slow

Minute 2 - Fast

Minute 3 - Slow

Minute 4 - Fast

Minute 5 - Slow

Allow your Heart Rate and breathing to come back down to normal before sitting down or resting. This gives the body a chance to recalibrate to a reduced activity level without shock to the system. Think of the marathon runners who are told to keep moving after their workout. For those 5 minutes, it's you and the wind (indoors or outdoors - there's still wind).

This interval style of activity helps us to remain in control of our progress without continuous over-exertion or endurance training. It's also a fantastic way to work ourselves up to longer intervals at a time. Studies have shown the benefits. Here's an article from Men's Journal which outlines 7 Scientifically Proven Benefits of High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). Interval exercise is just a great way to gain more rewards and perhaps enjoy your time more as well and it doesn't have to be extremely high-intensity or only meant for extreme athletes either. Try it out with today's 5 Minute WALK challenge, you'll thank me later. :)

I like both reading and hearing the instructions for the day's challenge. It makes it so easy to get the idea and provides another level of support that helps us choose to participate for our own well-being. The intent letter is a great idea and like you said it is used in many ways so why not for our own outcomes. Thank you!
